A Flood Warning remains in effect for the Wind River near at Riverton. The National Weather Service issued the initial warning Tuesday morning and it is expected to remain active through Thursday morning.
The Wind River is expected to fluctuate between 9 and 9.6 feet. Nine feet is flood stage for the Riverton. Minor flooding along the right and left banks upstream of the Highway 789 Bridge is possible. Agricultural flooding downstream of Riverton near the Black Bridge and Hidden Valley area could intensify.
A flash flood watch is also active for the entire Wind River basin and eastern side of the Wind River Mountains. Developing showers this afternoon and evening could contain period of heavy rainfall on already saturated soils. Additionally, some streams and rivers are already near bankfull. Flash flooding could result in the evening.
Rock or mud slides will be possible in steeply sloped areas, especially around mountain passes and canyons including Wind River Canyon, NWS reports.
